The ultimate rivals! An honest review of Lake Bohinj, the best things to do when visiting and comparing it to Lake Bled
Lake Bohinj is around a 40 minute drive from Lake Bled. Bohinj it said to be less well-known, quieter with less tourists and plenty more activities to get your teeth into than Bled.

Savica waterfall
The entrance fee is 3 euros to get into the national park and it is a short walk to find the waterfall. Again another great attraction and one I would recommend during your time in Bohinj. You can access Ukanc, where the waterfall is located, from Lake Bohinj by foot or by cycling which will take around 1 - 2 hours. The hike to the waterfall from Ukanc is around 1-1 ½ hours.
Vogel cable car
At Ukanc you can also take the Vogel Cable Car which takes you into the Julian Alps. This is around 20 euros per person.
Lake Bled vs Lake Bohinj
Lake Bohinj is impressive and the larger of the two. It is surrounded by the Julian Alps so the lake creates a great platform to begin a number of treks into the mountains. There are lots of activities to do and the perfect base for avid hikers to explore the Julian Alps. The main attraction to Lake Bohinj, in my opinion, is that it is less touristy than Lake Bled so there's less chance of queuing or being shoulder to shoulder with other sightseers.
There are also lots of activities to do and things to see when visiting Lake Bled such as Bled castle, Bled island, Bled church, Vintgar gorge and many more. My favourite part of Lake Bled and really what makes it stand out for me is the centre piece of the island and the church which Bohinj just does not have. The bright colour of the turquoise water is also unique to Lake Bled and makes it stand out like no other lake I have seen before.
Personally I thought Lake Bohinj had nothing on Bled. Lake Bled really stole my heart and I absolutely fell in love with its beauty. So much so that we booked I've booked my wedding here!
