5 nights in Cape Town, exploring the garden route and joining a game drive
This Cape Town and garden route itinerary involves gets an internal flight and renting a car to drive the garden route
Day 1
12pm - arrive into Cape Town international airport and take an Uber to your hotel. We stayed at Lagoon Beach with the best views of Table Mountain and Lions Head
2pm - unpack and have a drink and enjoy the views from La Mizu Beach Bar
3pm - relax in your hotel and recover from your flight
Day 2
10am - head to the V&A waterfront and head to Nosh in Time Out market for a coffee
11:30am - hop on the City Sightseeing bus and learn about the best parts of the city
12:30am - take the cable car up to the top of table mountain
2pm - hop back on the City Sightseeing bus and get off at Camps Bay
2:30pm - have lunch at Tigers Milk
3:30pm - head back to V&A waterfront and look around Watershed market
4:30pm - walk around the waterfront and have a cold glass of wine at Tashas
7pm - have dinner at the waterfront
Day 3
10am - explore the beauty of Kirstenbosch gardens
12pm - grab a picnic from the on-site restaurant, find a shady spot and enjoy
2pm - hop on the City Sightseeing bus and get off at the Long Street tour office stop and visit the colourful Bo-Kaap
7pm - have dinner in Cape Town
Day 4
10am - fly from Cape Town International to Port Elizabeth
12pm - arrive in Port Elizabeth and collect your rental car
1:30pm - drive to a game reserve in the Addo area. We stayed at and would definitely recommend Lalibela Game Reserve
3pm - check in to Lalibela and get ready for your first game drive
4:30pm - join your ranger on your first game drive
8pm - enjoy a magnificent dinner at Lalibela
Day 5
5:30am - rise bright and early to head out on your second game drive
10am - have breakfast at Lalibela and spend the day here relaxing by the pool
2pm - enjoy lunch at Lalibela
4:30pm - go on your third game drive
8pm - have your final dinner at Lalibela
Day 6
5:30am - head out on your final game drive
10am - enjoy your final breakfast at Lalibela
11am - check out of Lalibela
11:30am - drive to Jeffrey's Bay
2pm - check into your hotel. We stayed at Zebra lodge
3pm - relax by the pool or walk along one of the trails around Zebra Lodge
7pm - have dinner at Zebra lodge
Day 7
10am - have breakfast at Zebra lodge
11am - check out and drive to Plettenberg Bay
12pm - check into your hotel. We stayed at Christiana lodge (we stayed at Ilanga beach house owned by Christiana Lodge)
1pm - head to Robberg Nature Reserve and do the Witsand trail
7pm - have dinner at Barringtons
Day 8
9am - have a delicious breakfast at Christiana Lodge
10am - walk to the nearby beach and back
11am - head to the Plettenberg elephant sanctuary and join their trunk-in-hand walk
1pm - travel the short journey to Newstead wines for a wine tasting and lunch in their beautiful vineyard
3pm - head back to Christiana Lodge and relax by the pool
7pm - have dinner at either Fat Fish or drive a little further to Enricos
Day 9
9am - have a delicious final breakfast at Christiana Lodge
10:30am - drive the garden route to Franschhoek
2pm - stop along the route half way at Swellendam (other stops are Knysna and Wilderness)
4pm - arrive in Franschhoek and check into your hotel. We stayed at Le Manoir de Brendel but this was outside of Franschhoek centre (we wish we had stayed in the centre for ease)
7pm - have a drink and dinner at a nearby winery or brew house such as Hey Joe Brewing
Day 10
10am - get an Uber into Franschhoek and have breakfast at Terbodore cafe
11:30am - join the Franschhoek wine tram (we did the red line)
12pm - start off at Rickety Bridge for a wine tasting
2pm - stop next at Franschhoek cellar for their chocolate wine tasting
3pm - jump on the bus and stop at Lynx winery for a third tasting
4pm - head to Paserene for a final wine tasting
7pm - have dinner at Ruebens in Franschhoek
Day 11
10am - head back into Franschhoek and explore the local market
11:30am - drive from Franschhoek to Cape Town
1pm - check in at Tintswalo at Boulders
2pm - relax by the pool and use the access from boulders to the boardwalk
7pm - have dinner overlooking the South African penguins at Tintswalo
Day 12
8am - head out early and visit the penguins at boulders beach before the tourists arrive
9:30am - have a delicious breakfast at Tintswalo
10:30am - drive to the Cape Point Nature Reserve
11:30am - park at the car park where the funicular leads to Cape Point
12pm - take the funicular up to the lighthouse and Cape Point
2pm - hike to the Cape of Good Hope and past Dias beach
4pm - drive to Muizenberg beach and have an early dinner here
Day 13
10am - enjoy a final breakfast at Tintswalo
11am - drive back to the V&A waterfront
2pm - fly home
