Hacienda Doka
We visited the Doka coffee farm and joined them on their tour to learn all about the coffee production process from the initial plants and flowers which produce the beans, to picking the crops to the drying and roasting process. It was extremely interesting to learn about the history of Costa Rican coffee and how they pride themselves on producing quality over quantity.
The tour finished with a tasting of the coffees that Doka produce and also some delicious flavoured chocolates such as pineapple and coconut. There is also a butterfly garden on site which our little girl loved.
We then had lunch at the coffee farm too which was a buffet style lunch made up of Costa Rican cuisine. This is the perfect activity to learn about the coffee production process which the people of Costa Rica are very proud of.
Poas Volcano
Poas is one of the most popular volcanos to visit in Costa Rica. It is an active volcano but safe to visit for tourists. Don't worry though it has only erupted 40 times since 1828! You can find the volcano in the Poas Volcano National Park, open 8am-4pm including holidays and prices start from $15 per person.
La Paz Waterfall
This is the most visited attraction in San Jose and we managed to see one of the impressive waterfalls on our drive from La Fortuna. You can enjoy a visit to see 4 spectacular waterfalls and the country's largest animal sanctuary.
Many tour operators combine a coffee tour with a trip to both Poas Volcano and La Paz Waterfall which means that if you are pushed for time, you can see the best attractions all in one day.
